Sunando Mukherjee, a promising Sarod player was initiated to play this instrument by his father, Shri Sunil Mukherjee at a very early age. His love for the instrument as well as music further blossomed when he came under the tutelage of Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan from whom he continues to receive regular talim even today.
Over the years his proficiency in music has earned him many awards and rewards. He was the first artist to receive the ‘Pt. Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Trophy’ in the Dover Lane music competition in Kolkata. He also won a prize in the West Bengal State Music competition amongst many other music competitions. He is the recipient of the National Scholarship by the HRD Dept of Culture, Government of India. He is also the winner of ‘Surmani’ title. In addition he is a graded artist with All India Radio and is also an empanelled artist of ICCR.
His performances have taken him across the globe and he has also travelled widely within India. He has performed in various music concerts in Switzerland, Germany, in the ‘Asian Cultural Wind’ festival in Japan, took part in a series of concerts in South Africa and Seychelles organised by ICCR this year. In India he has performed in Utkal Sangeet Festival and in Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi in Bhubaneswar, in Kal ki Kalakar Festival, NCPA and Haridas Sangeet Festival in Mumbai, Hiralal Smriti Sangeet Samaroha concert in Delhi, in the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademi in Alwar, in Kalaprakash and Maha Mrityunjay Mahotsav in Benaras and in Salt Lake Music Festival and Bhowanipur Sangeet Sammelan in Kolkata. |
