Monograms for Ornamental Purposes

There are many things that will be considerably improved in appearance by the simple addition of a monogram. The back of a hair-brush is an obvious example, the lid of a trinket box is another, and so is the cover of a blotting book. A very easy way to provide the monogram is to cut it out of a piece of veneer. First, you will need to outline your design on the veneer and then to cut it with a stencil or a pocket-knife. Do the cutting on a sheet of glass.

Occasionlly, the veneer cracks and splits while it is being handled. When this is likely to happen, take the piece, out of which the monogram is to be cut, and place it for a short while between two thickness of damp blotting paper. It can be handled, then, without causing damage.

To stick the monogram on to its base, use ordinary glue. Put a heavy weight on the top to press it down if the article permits of this treatment. Be very careful to see that there are no loose edges or corners. Any upstanding points will probably lead to some damage in a very short while.
