What is the importance of Basant Panchami?

It is believed that the Goddess Saraswati bequeaths the greatest Wealth to human beings i.e., Knowledge. People pray to the Goddess on this day to acquire Knowledge and ask to remove the Darkness of Mind and to bless them with the Eternal Knowledge. She is imagined in White Attire with the Musical Instrument Bina in her hand and sitting on a White Lotus. Children are taught their first words on this day at the beginning of this auspicious occasion and students specially celebrate the festival. Various Schools, Colleges and Academic Institutions organize the festival and the students participate in the occasion.
